Tyeya Thantaswa Ngxola
South African by origin, Tyeya Thantaswa Ngxola has made northern Mozambique her home for the past five years. As the President and Managing Director of Fundação Nuarro, she leads the organisation with a deep commitment to restoring ecosystems and uplifting the coastal communities of the Baixo Pinda Peninsula.
Tyeya oversees the strategic direction, governance, and daily coordination of all foundation activities — from marine conservation and agroforestry to youth empowerment, water access, and community welfare. Her leadership is shaped by years of living and working closely with the community and understanding its realities from the inside.
Alongside her partner, she also co-manages Nuarro Lodge, which serves as the operational base for the foundation — providing facilities, logistics, accommodation for visiting researchers, and vital infrastructure that enables the foundation’s conservation and community projects to function effectively.
In addition to her executive responsibilities, Tyeya serves as the Head of Fundraising, leading donor engagement, proposal development, and long-term partnership-building. She works closely with international foundations, research institutions, and community stakeholders to secure the resources needed to sustain and expand the foundation’s impact.
Driven by a personal passion for ecosystem restoration, community resilience, and sustainable development, Tyeya brings vision, discipline, and compassion to Fundação Nuarro. Her mission is to ensure that both people and nature thrive together — today and for generations to come.

Timothy Adrian Theal Stewart
Timothy Adrian Theal Stewart, South African by origin, serves as the Vice-President of Fundação Nuarro, bringing technical expertise, operational leadership, and a long-standing commitment to conservation and community development on the Baixo Pinda Peninsula. As co-manager of Nuarro Lodge alongside his partner, Tim plays a central role in aligning lodge operations with the foundation’s mission, ensuring that tourism, conservation, and community development work hand-in-hand.
With a deep knowledge of plant life, soil health, and regenerative farming systems, Tim is the Project Manager for all Agroforestry Initiatives under the foundation. He leads the development and management of the 4-hectare agroforestry demonstration site, guiding species selection, soil restoration practices, mulching systems, compost production, and the integration of natural inputs such as biochar and organic amendments. His hands-on expertise ensures that the foundation’s land restoration model is both sustainable and replicable for local farmers.
In his role as Vice-President, Tim supports strategic decision-making, strengthens governance processes, and provides oversight in the absence of the President. His core duties include:

Tim’s deep connection to the land and sea, combined with his practical experience managing lodge operations and conservation activities, make him a vital pillar of the foundation’s work. His approach is rooted in long-term thinking, ecological understanding, and a genuine commitment to empowering local communities through knowledge, skills, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Joaquim Silvério Nhantumbo

Legal Advisor
Born and raised in Mozambique, Joaquim Silvério Nhantumbo serves as the Administrator of Fundação Nuarro, bringing strong legal expertise, administrative leadership, and deep cultural understanding to the organisation. As a qualified attorney, Joaquim oversees all legal matters for both NuarroLodge and Fundação Nuarro, ensuring that every activity, partnership, and project is conducted with full compliance and unwavering integrity.
In his role as Administrator, Joaquim manages the foundation’s administrative structure, governance processes, and internal systems. He ensures that the foundation adheres to national regulations, maintains accurate records, fulfils reporting obligations, and upholds the highest ethical standards. His guidance is essential in drafting contracts, reviewing agreements, safeguarding donor compliance, and navigating complex legal frameworks.
