A collaborative training program for local youth

Fundação Nuarro is proudly implementing its first-ever vocational training programme in partnership with Young Africa Mozambique. Running from September 2025 until December 2025, this initiative marks an important milestone for our community by bringing high-quality technical and life-skills training directly to the youth of Baixo Pinda and surrounding villages.

Together with Young Africa, we designed this programme to create real opportunities for young people aged 18 to 25, ensuring that both young men and women are included and represented.

Fundação Nuarro played a key role in opening access to the programme by:

Engaging community leaders to share information and mobilize local youth
Facilitating enrollment for interested candidates
Collaborating with the local school to secure classrooms for training
Providing ongoing support to students and trainers throughout the entire programme

We also ensure that all training is run in alignment with Young Africa’s standards, maintaining quality, safety, and accountability.

What Young Africa Provides

As the technical partner, Young Africa brings extensive expertise and resources to the programme. Their contribution includes:

Certified, paid trainers delivering courses in civil construction and electrical/solar installation
Financial support for purchasing all required training materials
Uniforms and protective gear for trainers and students
A mobile-training model that provides continuous guidance and oversight to Fundação Nuarro

This support system ensures that each participant receives professional, high-quality training.

Training Rooted in Real Community Needs

Courses combine theoretical learning with practical field experience, ensuring that students receive training relevant to local job opportunities and ongoing community projects. By hosting the program directly within the community, we remove barriers that often prevent youth from accessing education.

Empowering the Next Generation

For many young people, this will be their first opportunity to receive formal technical training. The programme equips them with skills, confidence, and a strong pathway toward employment or small business creation.

By partnering with Young Africa, we are investing in a new generation of builders, technicians, innovators, and community leaders youth who will actively shape the future of their villages. Running from September to December 2025, this programme is more than training. It is an investment in the future of our youth and the long-term resilience of our region.

At Fundação Nuarro, we believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream with a full stomach and a hopeful heart.

Starting this month, we are launching a weekly school feeding program, providing a nutritious meal to the children of Nanatha every Friday. Born from the initiative of one of our dedicated volunteers Marleen, this project has grown into a meaningful collaboration aimed at supporting child nutrition, improving wellbeing, and encouraging school attendance.

In a community where food shortages are a daily reality, a simple plate of food can make a big difference: it fuels learning, strengthens the body, and reminds our children that their community stands with them.

We are grateful to everyone who has supported this initiative and to our dedicated Activistas, teachers, and community members who help make it possible.

Meet Feliciano Julio — Our Community Project Leader. At Fundação Nuarro, community work is only possible because of dedicated leaders like Feliciano Júlio.

Feliciano oversees all our community projects with heart, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the people we serve.
Fluent in Portuguese, Macua, and English, he plays a vital role in bridging communication across languages — ensuring every meeting, training, and village visit is understood by all. In a community where Macua is still the main language, his skills are truly indispensable.
He also leads our local volunteer program, which runs key initiatives addressing malnutrition, hygiene, and sanitation — improving daily life for hundreds of families.

We are proud to have Feliciano at the forefront of our mission.

Last week, Nuarro welcomed a group of six university students and their Professor Salomao Bandeira from University of Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo who conducted research on seagrasses along our coast. 🌿
 Seagrasses play a key role in capturing carbon, protecting shorelines, and supporting marine life. Using a mix of snorkelling, diving, and AI-based mapping, the team collected valuable data to better understand these vital ecosystems. 🪸

Aim of the research → To explore how seagrasses contribute to sustainable fisheries, carbon storage, and coastal protection.

It was an inspiring week of collaboration, learning, and hands-on science here at Nuarro. 🤝

Growing Resilience, One Tree at a Time

We are excited to be collaborating with @crimas_lda on expanding agroforestry in our region. This week, together with the Fundação Nuarro team, we visited nearby communities with the goal of introducing agroforestry training to local farmers — listening to their needs, learning from their experiences, and exploring how this system can support both families and the environment 🌿

Our aim is to co-design a new agroforestry program that strengthens food security, restores the land, and empowers our community. After the community visits, we came together to brainstorm ideas and map out the next steps for a greener, more resilient future. 🌾✨

During the visit from @szn_dohrn, with marine scientists Paolo G. Albano and Irene Olivé Samarra, we hosted a dialogue with local fishermen to ask one vital question:
👉 How has fishing changed over the years?

Their answers carried the weight of lived reality — fish are disappearing, along with all other life in the sea, and with them, the stability of families who depend on the sea. What was once abundant is now uncertain.

By creating this space, we are transforming experience into evidence, evidence into understanding, and understanding into action.

Now the real journey begins:

Through help of donors we aim to train local farmers to cultivate a variety of crops that will not only sustain their families but also nourish the community. 🥬🍠 Together, we’re building a future where people are equipped to farm their own land, making it fruitful for generations to come.

Our goal? To reforest the land🌳 and create a healthy, thriving ecosystem for the benefit of all.
